Paediatric occupational therapy

Childhood is a crucial time for growth and learning. If you are worried that your child is struggling to reach milestones, finding daily tasks hard, or not coping well with preschool or school, early help makes a real difference. We come to where your child spends their day, work through play, and give you practical things to do at home.

Neurodivergent-affirming

We work with many autistic children and children with ADHD, dyslexia and dysgraphia, as well as children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and other neurological conditions. The aim is never to make a child “fit in” but to understand how they experience the world, build on what they are good at, and change the things around them that get in the way.

Parents are part of every session. You know your child best, and the strategies that work are the ones that fit your family and your routine.

Where sessions happen

At home, at preschool or school, in the community or by telehealth. Working in the place where a skill is used means it sticks: a morning routine is practised in your kitchen, classroom strategies are set up with the teacher, and playground skills are built in the playground.

No referral needed

You can contact us directly. A GP referral is only needed if you want to claim a Medicare rebate under a Chronic Disease Management plan.

NDIS early childhood

We provide NDIS-funded support under Early Childhood Supports and Therapeutic Supports for self- and plan-managed families, and can help you work out what to ask for at a planning meeting.

Reports that help

Developmental assessments, functional capacity assessments and progress reports written plainly, for the NDIS, your paediatrician and your child’s school.

Where sessions happen

We come to you

  • At home

Where routines actually happen: mornings, meals, play, homework and bedtime. Most families start here.

  • Preschool and school

Alongside educators, so the strategies that work in a session work in the classroom and the playground too.

  • In the community

Shops, parks, the bus, a workplace or a group home: wherever the goal is, that is where we practise it.

  • By telehealth

Secure video sessions for families and adults anywhere in NSW, and for check-ins between visits.

Questions

Children: questions people ask

How do I know if my child needs occupational therapy?
If your child is finding tasks like dressing, feeding, handwriting, playing or getting along with others harder than you would expect, OT can help. It is particularly useful for children with developmental delay, sensory processing differences or difficulties with motor skills. If you are unsure, ring us: a short conversation is often enough to say whether an assessment would help.
What does an occupational therapist do during sessions?
We keep assessing your child’s abilities as we go, and work on specific goals through play-based activities and strategies tailored to them. Sessions look like play because, for a child, play is the work.
What should I expect at my child’s first session?
The first session is an assessment: we look at your child’s strengths and the areas they find hard, talk through your concerns, and set goals together. You leave with a clear idea of what we recommend and what happens next.
Can parents take part in sessions?
Yes, please. We give you strategies to use at home so progress continues between visits, and we work with your child’s teachers and other therapists so everyone is on the same page.
Do you work with schools and preschools?
Yes. With your permission we visit the classroom, observe, and set up strategies with the teacher. We also write the reports schools ask for when applying for adjustments and support.
