Getting started

From your first call to the first visit

Starting therapy should not be another hard thing. Here is exactly what happens when you get in touch, what we need from you, and what the first session looks like.

Four steps

What happens, in order

  1. Get in touch

Ring, email or send the enquiry form. Tell us a little about who the support is for and what is hard right now. No doctor’s referral is needed.

A short conversation with Marina or Ana follows, usually within a couple of business days. It is a chance to ask anything, and for us to make sure OT is the right kind of help. If it is not, we will say so and point you somewhere useful.

  2. Paperwork sorted

We confirm how sessions will be funded (NDIS, Medicare plan, private health or privately), send the service agreement to sign on your phone, and book the first visit.

If you are self- or plan-managed under the NDIS we need your NDIS number, your plan dates and your plan manager’s details. For a Medicare Chronic Disease Management plan, your GP’s referral. Everything else we gather as we go.

  3. First visit and assessment

At home, at school or online, we get to know you and the person we are supporting, look at the everyday things that matter, and agree on what to work towards.

Assessments are matched to the person: a developmental assessment for a young child, a functional capacity assessment for an NDIS plan, a seating or assistive-technology assessment, or simply a careful look at a morning routine. You are part of it throughout.

  4. A plan, then sessions

You get a plain-language plan with goals you helped set. Sessions build the skills, adapt the environment or find the right equipment, and we adjust as life changes.

We write the reports the NDIS, schools and other professionals need, and keep everyone who supports the person pulling in the same direction. Progress is reviewed with you, not just recorded.

What to have ready

Paperwork, kept short

Nothing here holds up the first conversation. We gather what we need as we go, and tell you plainly if something is missing.

For an NDIS participant

  • NDIS number and plan dates
  • Whether the plan is self- or plan-managed, and the plan manager’s details
  • The goals in the plan, if you have them handy
  • Any recent reports from other therapists or doctors

For a Medicare plan

  • The Chronic Disease Management referral from your GP
  • Your Medicare card

For private health or private fees

  • Your fund and level of extras cover, if you want to claim
  • Nothing else: we send the fees in writing before the first visit
The first visit

For a child

The first session is play. While your child explores, draws, climbs or builds, we are watching how they move, use their hands, pay attention, process sensation and relate to you and to us. We talk with you about what is hard at home and at preschool or school, and about what you hope will change.

You leave with our first impressions, the goals we suggest working towards, and often one or two things to try straight away. A written assessment or report follows if one is needed for the NDIS, your paediatrician or the school.

For a teenager or adult

The first visit is a practical conversation, ideally in the place where daily life happens. We look at what is going well, what is hard, the home or workplace itself and any equipment already in use, and we ask what you want to be different. Family, carers or support workers are welcome if you want them there.

From there we agree on goals and a plan. If an assessment is needed (functional capacity, assistive technology, SIL or SDA), we explain what it involves, how long it takes and who will read the report.

Where sessions happen

We come to you

  • At home

Where routines actually happen: mornings, meals, play, homework and bedtime. Most families start here.

  • Preschool and school

Alongside educators, so the strategies that work in a session work in the classroom and the playground too.

  • In the community

Shops, parks, the bus, a workplace or a group home: wherever the goal is, that is where we practise it.

  • By telehealth

Secure video sessions for families and adults anywhere in NSW, and for check-ins between visits.

After that

Sessions, reviews and the people around you

Regular sessions

Weekly, fortnightly or as the plan needs. Sessions are booked around school, work and family life, and we are open early mornings, evenings and Saturdays.

Everyone on the same page

With your permission we talk to teachers, support coordinators, GPs and other therapists, so strategies carry across home, school and clinic.

Reviews and reports

Progress is reviewed with you, goals are updated, and reports for NDIS plan reviews, schools and specialists are written in plain language and on time.
